Valonia is a service centre for sustainable development and energy of Southwest Finland. All 27 municipalities in the region participate in the regional sustainable development strategy through joint advisory organisation – Valonia. The guiding document is Southwest Finland Sustainable Development Programme 2015–2020.

Valonia offers extensive range of expert services and supports municipalities in sustainable development issues such as climate and energy, water protection, circular economy, sustainable mobility and awareness raising. Valonia is the operational unit within the Regional Council of Southwest Finland and therefore works from the grassroots to the strategic level.

Advisory Organization

Valonia acts as an unbiased regional advisory organization of sustainable development for municipalities and companies. Valonia offers extensive range of expert services and supports municipalities in sustainable development. Among other things we encourage schools and daycares to participate in the Green Flag -programme, we draw up mobility plans for work places, support municipalities with their energy efficiency agreements and offer wastewater counselling.

Sustainable Development

Valonia offers municipalities and other target groups an extensive and diverse selection of services and tools in the field of sustainable development. With these tools and services municipalities can independently or with our support further sustainable development and add citizen participation and co-operation. We organize around 200 different events, trainings, courses, competitions and theme days every year.  You can borrow different materials and assignment packages from us.

One of Valonia’s main goals is to promote sustainable development and to create public discussion on the subject. As a regional player Valonia’s role as a distributer of environmental knowledge is significant. Web pages and social media have notable importance in our communication.
